There's an old football cliche that informs us attack is often considered the best form of defence. Well come Monday night against The Toffees we may find out whether that is true or not.
It doesn't need pointing out, but I'll do it anyway, The Toon have a number of key defensive players missing for the trip to Goodison. Mind you nearly all of them have been injured during games rather than training (change from years gone by), although I can understand APee being annoyed over those to Colo and Krul.
Anyway back to the point of Attack! Attack! Attack!
The return of Sammy and Stroller is a plus point.... not a huge one admittedly for some, but with the squad we have beggars can't be choosers.
The return of the Amoebas may just be the thing to give our misfiring front two of Demba and Demba a kick up the arse to get on the goals trail. If NUFC go with three up front there's no doubt in my mind HBA 10 will scare both Distin and Phil Jagielka, who despite playing for England mid week looks anything but a quality international defender.
That then leaves midfield which is another area that appears to be struggling. The young kid Bigirimana will have his hands full with Everton's dogs of war so I expect him to battle throughout the ninety minutes. Cabaye has looked out of form, but this is probably a game he could enjoy as it's likely to as much about stamina as it is passing. Which leaves the last midfield selection being between Jonas or Sylvain. As I'm thinking of all out attack I would give it to marvelous and just tell him to go out a play with Johan.
The back four and keeper with Bigi in front of them will just have to battle for everything and try not to sit too deep. Santon and Anita will also have to plow up and down the wings all night as well. Saylor will do what he does best alongside either Willo or Perchinio.
However for me it's all about attacking Everton from the off rather than let them dictate the game.
With APee up in the stand it's over to JC on the touchline to make it work....
