This is an interesting thread. I often wonder how different people like different music, how does it start? Why does someone prefer one sound over another...its a fascinating question & no doubt there have been lots of studies about it.
Milky, I think your links are tremendous....I like & profoundly respect classical music & the musicians are amazingly talented & must be hard working to reach such high standards.
Roma, these are great, too....I often think the drums are overlooked but when you think of all the complicated rhythms etc of Africa, India, South America etc, its like another language.
My big thing has always been jazz as it encompasses a wide field....sometimes almost classical, sometimes almost pop, sometimes complex & so on & so on......
However, music is music & thank God for that!
I wish I could play an instrument but can't......I envy anyone who can!

Which of the instruments do you play, milky? Piano and cello: Unfortunately I have arthritic hands and (especially the piano) now can be painful to play. I still love listening to them. |

Well I don't play as well as I used to at school, infact its more of a screeech these days, kind of nails on a blackboard, but.........my favorite instrument are bagpipes! Very hard to learn but very enjoyable to listen to when played well. ;D

I read somewhere that being a drummer is one of the best occupations for keeping fit, the other being musical too, an orchestra conductor.....all that use of the arms I suppose it must be!  |

Gene Krupa. and Buddy Rich. the best Drummer's i have ever seen on the big screen in the 1950's simply the best.
