In the Gospel According to Luke, Jesus makes it very clear that it is a sin to be rich, indeed he says that rich people cannot go to heaven!!
So next time a Christian starts wringing their hands and saying 'you know we would LOVE to accommodate practising homosexuals, but you know, according to the Bible, what what, God's Word, and all that sort of thing, eh what?' make sure they are poor, as the Bible condemns wealth just as it condemns homosexuality.

Which is why the church took so much money from the people during the middle ages... they had to sacrifice themselves so the peasants could live pure lives..

You have to remember the Bible is not the word of God is an allegory, and as such can't be taken at face value. For example the Bible was translated by Catholic Monks, would you expect any pope to allow any reference to homosexuality being an acceptable practice.

I would be surprised if a Pope took to kindly to the place where Jesus says rich people can't go to heaven, yet there it is, translated. I'm not a Christian, but it seems to me that SOME OF the same Christians who say they can't modernise what is written in the Bible just to suit trends, have no problem turning a blind eye to things like Luke 18:25.

The pope may not consider himself as rich, and because he's the head of the Catholic church he automatically has a place at the right hand of God. If any rich man wants to join him they must give all their money to the Vatican. Looking back at the history of the Catholic church and what was done in the name of God and Rome, it's a bit presumptuous to believe the pope will end up anywhere near heaven.

The Pope may not consider HIMSELF as rich, but since he quite clearly IS rich, he will also need to be careful not to tread on the toes of OTHER rich people. Such is the nature of wealth. Just my opinion
