This is a bit of a conundrum I think. On the face of it I'm all for supporting urban wildlife and all that goes with it but how did towns/cities develop in the first place.....by spreading gradualy outwards from the centre. I do think that all the opportunities for building homes etc on "brown field" sites should be exploited first though. Another conundrum, of course, which can occur when people live in newly developed city centres is that the residents then start to complain about noisy bars/nightclubs, etc! Surely they should have been aware of this before moving in. Of course the much needed jobs that these developments can bring are welcome but, as I say, a conundrum!

They won't be happy in North Tyneside until every blade of grass is concreted over!!! Every week we get a free paper through the door, and every week there are 10/12 pages of houses for sale. Why the hell don't people buy the ones already for sale, that might save building houses all over the dammed place!! If they need to build houses, then why not build social housing on brownfield sites, then more folk will benefit from it!! But there's no profit in that is there!!

So are the NIMBY's correct and should this development be stopped or refused? CWL

Yes it should be stopped. There are plenty of houses on the market without ruining another green natural place. If folk want to buy a house, then look in the local paper or the 20,000 estate agents that are everywhere!!

I just wonder how many of these protesters have the same enthusiasm for the plight of people in the world starving, tortured and innocent victims of civil war.
I can't imagine the people of Hom in Syria saying "Never mind that we are being attached by missiles murdered and without food, in the North East of England there are poor people having there view damaged"

People tend not to compare with the rest of the world though. How many times have you seen "people living in poverty" in the paper, news etc? No one in this country is in poverty - if you compare to some African countries. But if you compare to someone on 50/60,000k pa, then those on benefits/NMW are obviously worse off.
There are enough empty properties and places for sale to satisfy the problem, we don't need to continually build on every field or spare bit of ground going! Taken in tandem with the amount of folk who pave over their gardens, (don't even start me on that one!!) there soon won't be any green places, trees or wild life around!!

Personally I do understand why there are houses being built. During the last few years mortgages have been difficult to obtain, and there are too many houses on the market.
I have to wonder if the protesting peoples agenda is to preserve England's countryside, or preserve the value on their houses.

Is it really any wonder as successive Governments have provided Billions in overseas aid and military assistance. Perhaps it's understandable why some people are more concerned about what is happening next door to them rather than situations in other countries. CWL

All government understand.....aid = influence = contracts. Also governments realise none of there aid go to those who need it, instead into the Swiss bank account. In other words bribes by the back door. Well that's what a cynic might think
