Had to take my cat Munchkin to the vet on Monday, he'd not been well since late on Friday, and got worse on Sat and Sun. We thought it might be his teeth - and it was!! Got to the vets and she said that he'd have to have dental work done and booked us in to the animal hossie for Tuesday. She gave him a pain jab and an antibiotic jab - price of visit £50, kerching!!!!
He had to have a blood test to make sure he could take the anesthetic, so the dental work and blood test would cost £302 double kerching!! Took me a while to lift Jazz off the floor mind, where he'd collapsed in a heap after she said "hundred"!!!
Munch went into the cat carrier ok and off we go, had to be there by 10am. Got there and the place is better than a human hossie, great big reception, marble floor, big sculptures, black leather seats, massive flat screen telly, Jazz muttering away!! They said they'd let us know when he "came to" and what time to pick him up, probably about 4pm, so home we went. Hadn't been in the house an hour when we got a call off the hossie, they'd done the blood test, and because he'd not eaten for a few days, his liver/kidney something was down, and he'd need a drip!!!
And it would cost us £75!! By now Jazz was in total shock, especially when he heard me say "yeah no problem, go ahead". Now this bill was going up quicker than a bankers' bonus!!! We got a call to say he was fine and was just coming out of anesthetic. We went up to pick him up - Jazz still muttering, the word "workhouse" featured heavily!! I went to reception to pay and the 75 quid had gone up to £103!!! By now I'd gone passed caring, and my card was having a heart attack!! We had a word with the nurse and she gave us pills and antibiotics and Munch had had 7 teeth out!! He also had an ear infection, so that was sorted!
Munch is now fine, although a bit lethargic, probably due to the pills and antibiotics, he seems to be managing to eat sans 7 teeth, I did think of getting him dentures, but couldn't afford the £10,000 quid it would have probably cost!! ;D Jazz is also recovering nicely, although still mutters to himself when he looks at Munchkin!!
I just wished I'd worked harder at school, as being a vet seems to be a license to print money!! And they know they have you, as there is no way you'd leave your pet to suffer!! So come Saturday, you'll see us busking in Northumberland St, trying to earn enough for a pint in the Forth!!! ;D
Oh I forgot, he's going back to the vet next week to check everything is ok and a blood test to check that his liver function has gone back to normal, so that'll probably be another 50 quid!! Ker bloody ching!!
