Well, I'm not a Mackem for Christ's sake (can I say that during Lent?)...the side can only get so dark, otherwise...and despite Cannyman's desires to show me his "dark side," I've managed to thwart his advances with the promise of Guinness and show tunes...fortunately, at his advancing age, his memory has never forced me to produce such a bounty...people may make fun of Cannyman's looks, but for 371 years old, he looks pretty good...he's like a vampire, only he sucks at everything...I feel bad for his poor wife...I also feel good for her, depending on her mood, but that is neither here nor there...
As for the accusations about NASCAR, it's only partially true...I'm a Yankee at heart (thank goodness we won that war), but was forced to work in the Confederacy where those simple folk enjoy watching cars go fast and make left turns (they also enjoy cake and shiny objects)...lucky for me, I figured out a way to gamble on it.
I can't dispute hockey, though, it's been my lifelong passion (of course, I played soccer for many more years [less expensive], but never realized the soccer WAG potential on this side of the Atlantic at a young enough age)...but this Newcastle thing works out well for a Philly boy...constant heartbreak, rarely a championship, and a passionate following that can always do better than the current administration (I'm still speaking of sport and not our current political climate)...add in a dash of unsavory hooliganism, and it's nearly the same...
...anyhow, I'm still alive and kicking harder than Xisco...

Ah Supermac, your wit has been truly missed by me and others. As fer Cannyman's age fear not, Trolls have been known to live well past 500 years, dependin upon the bridge they live under. I hope you know the "Dark Side" begins at the Mason Dixon Line. Oh, a Philly lad eh. Please tell me your not a Flyers Phan, it's worse that being a Mackem!

I wouldn't necessarily call myself a Flyers fan. I'm a hockey fan first, and I just so happen to root for the Flyers...it may be semantics, but I think there's a big difference...I love the sport more than the team (I actually grew up a Devils fan [All hail Marty] and converted when I moved to Dixie because it was easier than trying to explain how I could like different teams from different cities...people down here really do struggle with that)...point being, I actually don't like most Flyers fans...they're a bit of an arseholish group...and as long as you're not a Penguins fan, I don't have much of an issue with you, either... ...have I sufficiently bored everyone with talk of hockey? Blame Cannyman, he started it...

Breaking in on the hockey (ice hockey, of course here) thread I used to be an avid supporter of Whitley Bees (now Warriors) and remember, in particular, some hard fought games with Durham Wasps their arch rivals. The Wasps are long since defunct but the sport still thrives in Whitley Bay. Newcastle Vipers are now finished too.....financial problems. A great sport to watch but I find watching it on TV to be no good as the game moves too fast and half the time you can't see the puck.....it just seems to be players skating madly around to no purpose. Definitely to be watched live for me!

One group goes to see the car wrecks and the other watch the race. In hockey one group goes for the fights and the other for the game. A constant joke over here is a guy sez "I went to the fights last night and it broke out into a hockey game".
