Blimey-the new idea-lets stop me smoking in my own car when Im on my own.I saw some doctor interviewed this morning on the topic and yes I know smokings harmful-but cannot believe he came out with the notion that people have to be prevented from doing this for their own good.Is that right Mr Doctor ?? So I assume we'll be banning alcohol in the very near future because not a day goes by without me reading some hideous thing happening due to the affects of alcohol-hey why not ban cars cause a hell of alot of people die on the roads. I feel its another step foward by the thought police and I can almost hear the non smokers snapping at my heels-well I wonder if theyd feel the same if there was an alcohol ban lmao

Well as far as I'm concerned, they can go to hell!! There might be a case for banning it if you have small kids in the car, but otherwise they should just leave people alone! They cannot even "police" the mobile phone ban, judging by the number of people I see still using them, they've got no chance with this!! What next, banning it in peoples' own homes?? We are slowly sliding into a dictatorship, I'm sick to death of "them" telling me what I can and cannot do in my own space!!!

TBH we should have done that when they stopped smoking in pubs!!! There is no reason why they couldn't have had a "smoking room. In Schipol Airport they have these amazing smoking rooms, we had a 7 hour layover there, and it was going to be a right chow on going outside for a tab, as the place is so big, it was a right hike to the outside. But they have these rooms inside the airport, I actually passed one first time without realising what it was!!
Not a sniff of smoke escapes out into the concourse, although it's open to the rest of the airport!! It's only a small room and there were quite a few of us in it, it wasn't smokey in the least!! They were dotted about all over the place! So it is perfectly possible to do it, but no, the "dictators would rather use draconian laws instead!!! I'm stopping before my ranting gets out of hand!!!!!!

As a non smoker (smug look on my face) I don't like the smell of cigarette smoke (don't mind cigar smoke).....it's the equivalent of say, a smoker sniffing diesel fumes from a bus or lorry. However, I turn a blind eye (or nose!)......live and let live, and as everyone knows it's bad for you and an addiction it's up to the individual. One thing that irritates me though is, say you have a lovely bright and clear day in the countryside with fresh, sparkling air to breathe and a smoker lights up.....it sort of spoils things a bit. I certainly believe that pubs have been spoilt because of the smoking ban and spoilt for everyone.....smokers and non smokers.

As a "smoker" this whole thing has me confused. Why are we not allowed to smoke? Wouldn't it be easier for the non-smokers to have their own area. Why do we have to go outside to keep the non-smokers happy - are they superior to us? Jazz - yes - live and let live! We smokers have an air purifier in our home for people who visit. At one point, even I couldn't stand the smell when coming into the house

i think it's ok to have a smoke while sitting in your car but i dont agree with driving while smoking even though im a smoker myself, there are enough ditractions while driving without the ciggie and i hate it when people throw their butts out of the car, by the way im talking cigarette butts and not people mooning .

It's funny how everyone (including me) chooses to obey and object to the laws they want. According to R.O.S.P.A many accidents are caused by smoking in cars. Not to worry smoking has always been banned in my car.

The biggest distraction IMO is squabbling kids in the back seat!!!!

Aye, hoy 'em out when they start arguing! ;D No, the point I was making was there are far more distracting things than having a smoke. I don't smoke when I'm driving, the wheels have a smoke, but not me
