Read it on the official site earlier today.......... www.nufc.co.uk/articles/20110927/new-deal-for-gutierrez_2281670_2464442Got to be honest and say I never saw this coming. Probably if anything my cynical side thought he would have been one of those considered for sale next summer due to his contract situation. It possibly also suggests Jonas was more willing to agree with whatever terms he was offered than Nolan or Barton. Still reckon he will have a sell on value so if that is met then he will be off. However at least I now know that is a distinct possibility under Mikey so it's less of a complete surprise. Colo next perhaps? CWL

I may not be as doom laden (isn't he dead?) as some among the Toon faithful however, my cynical head just will not let go at times. As Foggy wrote on the Capt'ns site perhaps this is a reward to Jonas for not rocking the boat. As one thing we do know about Mikey is your days are numbered at NUFC once he has been crossed. CWL

Capt M it's the burden of the old to have travelled the long path to where we currently are and remember every step of the bloody way! The young only join the journey on the way. Not knowing how far they too may have to travel along that same path before attaining the level of understanding they once ridiculed. CWL

Nolan didnt merit it? Does Jonas have pictures of fatman with farmyard animals? All the questions need grey haired answers..........CWL ...step up to the plate man.....

Not sure about Farmyard animals however, there's always Decka around the place! Heard one or two things at the weekend from guys I know that attend the match about Jonas telling Pardew he wanted to leave in January.................usual sh*t stirring stuff I thought. Now after this I'm not so sure. Has APee gone to Mikey and told him in order to keep Jonas offer him a contract extension. Could be considered a bold move on APees part if he did. Offering and getting him to sign a new deal is brilliant PR as it is just so unexpected and as everyone agrees goes against the grain of what we have come to expect from Mikey and Co. Which is bloody amazing as this regime have been crap at it for the past four years. It's not as if it actually means much when all is said and done either. Jonas had two years to go on his current deal and has simply made a commitment to stay a further two after that. Doesn't mean he actually will. Several European clubs have shown interest in him during the summer and I reckon if the right money was offered Mikey will sell regardless of what APee wants. The team also have some ready made replacements in Marvelous Marveaux and possibly Sameobi. Providing Santon slots in well or another left back is signed during January or next summer Jonas will not be missed that much. It's his workrate and covering for Ryan Taylor at the moment which makes him a standout player for us. As an attacking wide man he flatters to deceive, but on his day can be a match winner. Jonas also has that wonderful option of heading back to Argentina just before the next World cup should he want to end his career closer to home. Canny to try and answer your question why Jonas and not Nolan.............well I can only think it was because Kevin wanted some assurances about not just his contract, but the playing side as well. As you possibly know there was a dispute over bonus payments at the end of last season and this campaign they are performance related. I believe that possibly means if you are not either in the team or part of the matchday squad you don't receive the bonus payments. As much as I liked Nolan as skipper and for his goals I reckon he would be struggling to get into our side at the moment. He may well have still made the bench but even that could have become a major task given another year, just look at Alan Smith. The offer he received from West Ham was just too good to turn down and to be honest players will always do what's in their own best interests before anything else. All the badge kissing and I love playing for this Club malarkey will never change that. So those are my thoughts on this situation...............for what they are worth! Now off to play with photoshop...............farm animals and pictures of Mikey..........umm! CWL

CWL CWL ...thanks for the War and Peace answer(just joking).......the bit I picked out that made most sense to me was "Several European clubs have shown interest in him during the summer and I reckon if the right money was offered Mikey will sell regardless of what APee wants". This contract is transparent....he is upping Jonas's value prior to selling him.....you heard it here first.....Thats Mikey's modus operandum......makes sense now.

Accept it was long winded...............but agree having Jonas on a long contract will make any negotiations to free him from it more costly for the buyer. Mikey the businessman to a T...............simples! CWL
