Not to worry I have a cunning plan to bridge the socket gap and help fight obesity among future generations when you charge up....................... CWL

[quote author=skintagain i would expect these to be cheap to maintain, they wont need cam belt changes, or spark plugs etc, ok the range may not be far but if you travel around 50 miles a day then they are ideal, plus free road tax so after about 10 years the money you would have saved on fuel, repairs, tax etc would pay for the car, id expect them to get cheaper in time and the range to improve.[/quote]
Skint these electric cars are going to hit the governments tax revenue big time do you realy beleive these cars are going to be cheap to run...Remember deisel cars they used to be dirt cheap to run infact the government encouraged people to buy them but once a certain percentage of motorist where driving diesel's the tax on them went through the roof and remember deisel is a waste by-product of petrol so they are making money out of rubbish. The only people who will gain from these electric cars will be the first to buy them and who are daft enough to pay in excess of £20.000 for what is basically a glorified milk float with a radio. Wait a year or so and the price of these cars will tumble and thats when you will find the sting in the tale and i promise you these cars will cost more to run then your current car

Yes, I think you have a point there Nick! I remember when diesel cars came out, and the diesel was dirt cheap compared to petrol. Quite a few people I knew got one, now diesel is dearer than petrol! Another big con coming our way!!! Mind, they will have to find alternatives to oil, but I don't think it's going to run out next week!!! We'll all probably be shoving up the daisies by the time it does!!!

Interestingly enough there are other alternatives to these type of electric cars and probably the most significant being those vehicles which use hydrogen fuel cells. That said like many attractive things Hydrogen is not easy to produce or store in a useable form. Although it is arguably very good for the Planet as it doesn't involve carbon based fuels and the byproduct is water. CWL

Yes your right Clear there are more efficient fuels out there but its the government who are going to decide which one takes the lead. I personally dont think this switch over to electric vehicles is just down to looking after the environment . I think it has a lot more to do with the political situation in the middle east once the west cuts its reliance on the Arab oil the better They have been holding the west to ransom for years Once thats done we work on getting out of the EU and go back to being the innovative people we were ;D

With a small conversion you can get diesel cars to run off used chip fat. My car only just over three months old, so I don't want to do that.
Can you imagine a car sticker that said "Powered by South Gosforth Chippy"

the problem with using cooking oil is the exhaust fumes smell like what ever was cooked in it, if it was fish you will have thousands of sea gulls and cats following you round , as for running an electric car the charge points are going to be free for the next 3 years and then it's £75 per year after that, and to charge at home will cost about £1 per full charge.
