Well spotted Milk, Avatar has been a handle I've used for ohh 10 years now and I've used it in all my Massive Multi-player online games ilk World of Warcraft. The first time we had a meet in the States we all had to get tee shirts with our handles on as we'd referred to all our US chums by their handles for 5 years! Its was a bit bizarre with over 100 members all meeting with Tee shirts on with "mostly Harmless", "Fossil" etc. What was amazing Milk is those people we met where exactly the same as their online personas and even though we'd never met you just spoke and acted just like you'd always know them. It was tears and man-hugs all round

It was tears and man-hugs all round I think that has been the experience of those of us at the forum meets. We all are exactly as we seem on the forum. All got along really easily, and also had hugs all around. Mr Bansh attends car forum meets where they all refer to each other by their user names as that is how they got to know each other. I hope future forum meets give us all a chance to meet new people and get to know them too.

This is a question for the mods are you "actively" vetting new users to lets say keep out members who are known to cause problems. Or are we having a free and open forum with tight moderation?
I'll attend a meet at some point but living in South Shields means and the fact that Mrs Avatar is working shifts as a midwife makes it difficult sometimes to get the kids looked after.

Yes of course we vet newbies none of our members are known trouble causers, at the moment it's an open forum, but with very tight moderation. ;D

As such it's actually next to impossible to vet new members, however we do have criteria we follow for activating a members account. After that it is very much as Roma has stated in that both Admin and Mods keep a very close eye on all aspects of what is posted in the various topic headings and sub sections. Everyone is welcome to join, but there are conditions which have to be agreed to and met. So far fortunately our membership is such that the forum is almost self governing requiring little or no interference from those who manage the site. That said we are well prepared for when that may change although again so far we have not had to use any of the options available to us regarding inappropriate behaviour. Despite that positive some members have already left for their own personal reasons and that too is unfortunate. However it was their choice to leave just as it was to join in the first place. From a personal standpoint I believe the forum is going from strength to strength and the community developing here appears to reflect that perception. We certainly encourage our members to respond and give us feedback. After all without members we don't have a forum. CWL

Yes CLW we also found the members left of their own accord when the site was moderated by the members, it is like you say pretty much self policing. I don't recognise many of the new Tags yet but I can't see any of the "usual suspects" if you get what i mean

In terms of this forum, because it was started by Ex Chronicle members, there really was little choice but to have some of the members moderate altho I will say that thanks to pure luck and circumstances we did manage to get mod who wasnt previously a member of the EC forums, but who does have alot of modding experience. This was set up so fast-it had to be in order to find as many as quickly as we could before everyone dispersed. And ultimately it would only be our members who would have wanted to do it-Chronicle didnt care
