Not the Abba classic....but very relevant if you have read some of today's Football headlines. Top of the list is the latest Deloitte report on Football Finance which includes the £267m apparently owed to Mike Ashley by Newcastle United. That aside one thing that never ceases to amaze me about NUFC is the shear amount of speculation surrounding the Club and its players. I could be wrong and it's possibly just my single viewpoint on all things Toon related that make it appear that way, yet looking across the web and sports pages there's such a minefield of stories it's almost impossible to keep up at times. There is however another growing trend among those I have read and it involves Clubs that have benefited from large influxes of wealth, mainly Russian or from Middle Eastern conglomerates. Hence players such as Tiote, Cabaye, Debuchy and Cisse, among our first team, have all been linked with transfers away from SJP to the likes of Monaco, Anji and Lokomotiv Moscow. While I'm sure it is music to our most benevolent owners ears I'm not sure it is the same for supporters. It also goes full in the face of the continuing farce involving Colo and the cash strapped San Lorenzo. Perhaps it's more a sign of my growing frustration with Professional Football, and age, that this kind of reporting just makes me think is it worth bothering supporting any team outside of those bankrolled with billions or players only interested in what they want and nothing else? That's even before I get on my soapbox about ticket pricing and the like. The fact that the Premier League next season is also being reported as generating in excess of £3Billion pounds for Clubs while contending with a massive total debt of £2.4billion doesn't make me believe things will change much for the better either. I guess it's just something else Toon supporters have to accept to keep the dream alive that one day this crazy Club we follow with a passion may finally get it right. I just hope I live long enough to see it happen, but each close season it gets harder to accept, until August comes around again of course! Lights Oot!

Lites Oot......I think that the time will come when we will each make a personal decision. Follow the Toon when money has changed the game so much that the clubs with the most money win everything.......al la Chelski or Mank City...forget the old honorable game, and become as mercenary as the players themselves..............or................... Walk away from the game altogether, and divert your attentions to something else. The latter will be my choice, unless my lites go oot first!

You'll never walk away Canny, it's in yer DNA........much deeper than mine. The second time we met I remember you had some sort of shortwave radio just getting updated PL scores from across the pond, no internet back then pal. For me I just want see good football not the shit we witnessed this year. Now the year before I really enjoyed my footie. If we can get back to that I'm a happy camper. If we can't do that then it really is Pardews fault and will jump on the "sack'em" bandwagon!

Ann if you consider that amazing then try and get your head around the fact Chelski in the same report owed £895m to Abramovich. Lights Oot!

Hey Lights Oot, Can't Newcastle just get a loan from Wonga and pay that debt off?

I just hope I live long enough to see it happen, but each close season it gets harder to accept, until August comes around again of course! Lights Oot! Is it the money, is it the owners, is it the managers or is it a combination of all three that are the problem? Look at whats happened to Man City they took the league last year the players that won it then have not performed this year as they did the year before. There are a number of clubs in the Premiership that have the ability to attract players, I do not think the toon are one of the clubs(at the moment especially with Ashley around). Man U. Chelsea, Arsenal, Man City, Liverpool and Tottenham are way in front for attraction they are more likely to win a trophy or finish in a European place. NUFC are a Sports outlet for selling players who we pick up at bargain prices and we are also the outlet for selling Ashley`s teams football kit everything else is secondary to that. Stay in the league and spend as little as possible, utilise Graham Carrs findings, sign them on long term deals sit back and reap the benefits, nothing more nothing less. Do not allow the manager to make any decisions on players, buying or selling, his only remit is to spin as much as possible while at the same time select who plays and where. Mind he does all that extremely well! The only time we have had the ability to attract good players is when we have had good managers in place, Harvey, Keegan and Sir Bobby R. I do not believe you can only win something if you spend a fortune someone somewhere will emerge like Cloughie who can select (thats if they are allowed to)players who can do the business who come reasonably priced it is not an impossible dream. Capn........I'm confused...it may be interpretation but I requote from above........................................"Do not allow the manager to make any decisions on players, buying or selling, his only remit is to spin as much as possible while at the same time select who plays and where. Mind he does all that extremely well!" I dont see anywhere in that statement that says its Pardews fault....Now I cant imagine youve done a 180 turn, so it must be misinterpretation on my part ....right? Can you help me.........cause this says to me its all Ashleys fault?
