Normally I would have included this question in one of my post match summaries. However, such has been the at times torrid nature of this past season I couldn't summon up the energy to write one after yesterday. Barring the 37th minute applause for Steve Harper it didn't live up to billing.
Yet as it happens following yesterdays game something did crop up over a few end of campaign beers. Namely would you as a Toon fan swap places with Portsmouth as a Club? Like Wigan they have won the FA Cup, are now owned by The Fans as a Community Club (something which some supporters would like to happen at Newcastle) despite just recently being relegated and will play in League 2 next season? That said, like Wigan, who have also been relegated this season to The Championship, they have given their supporters something to cheer about, albeit possibly short lived.
Some pretty mixed responses and lively discussion around the table I must admit, although most in my company said they wouldn't swap. The majority putting forward the view staying in the Premier League is an absolute essential, never mind the desire of being able to compete among the big boys. Which one or two thought would be difficult should Wor Mikey continue to run the Club as it is. The guys involved in this debate are all season ticket holders for many years by the way, some still going home and away. Not all of them live in the North East either.
I just wonder what others on here think about such a swap, would you take it or leave it and why?
Lights Oot!
