Reports overnight are suggesting NUFC are getting closer to signing Bafetimbi Gomis from Lyon. Yesterday many sources suggested Villa were also interested in signing the player however, now that Benteke has signed a new contract extension perhaps that leaves the way clear to completing a deal for the striker.

Next up further news about Cisse on his way out of The Toon, no doubt....in search of more Wonga elsewhere.

Is it just a coincidence this is circulating today from the likes of Sport Witness (it could be the second coming and I wouldn't believe them) given where NUFC are currently training and about to play a couple of games....

Portuguese newspaper Record have reported that Newcastle United have shown a keen interest in Benfica centre forward Oscar Cardozo which has delayed his likely move at Turkish side Fenerbache. The media in Portugal have said that the Premier League club have put in a bid for the player but will have to raise their offer to land him.

For weeks Fenerbache have been in talks with the 30 year old regarding a move to Turkey but as yet an agreement hasn't been reached. It has been revealed that negotiations have been delayed due to Newcastle United entering the race for the Paraguayan international as they look to strengthen their squad for next season. Once again yesterday’s meetings with the Turkish club came to nothing as they have yet to meet Benfica’s valuation of the player.

However the proposal sent by Newcastle United was said to be lower than the €15m that Fenerbache offered yesterday in the meeting. There is now a belief a deal could be sealed in the next few hours, if the Turkish side slightly raise the bar, but things could still change in that time if Newcastle United were to increase their own bid.

With Benfica playing hard ball with Fernerbache, the English side will have to meet the valuation of the player set by the club’s president Luís Filipe Vieira.

Record have claimed Newcastle United’s sudden move for Cardozo is due to the issues they are having with current forward Papiss Cisse. Cisse has refused to wear jerseys with the name of the club’s new shirt sponsor Wonga, being a money lending company means it would go against his religion. Talks with the Senegalese international have been ongoing but as yet as they haven't come to an agreement but the club have denied the player will leave as a result of the situation.

Not convinced myself, as players age and cost not being the least of the facts mentioned which some how just doesn't add up given the way NUFC transfer dealings have gone previously.

Speculation of a different kind involving a coaching appointment rather than a player signing....

According to Sly Sports among a number of sources reporting the news this morning that Joe 'Fecking' Kinhere has approached former Mag and Mackem player Mick Hartford to join The Toon's backroom staff. Perhaps he is an authority on set pieces and corners as the side could do with someone that knows how to score from them.

I also suppose given the requirement for versatility among the staff he could always play up front should all striking transfer targets fail to cross the line (sic).

"cross the line"..............cross the line? Bollocks.........this last summer revisited! The FCB is still pissed about spending all in January so he didn't miss out on the TV money. BTW shouldn't some of that money go to bringing a few "over the line"? The only thing seen at SJP "over the line" will be Ashley's enormous shadow while standing on the touch line FFS!

Further transfer update from the Mag.....

The first article I did of this kind had ’97 Days To Go’ in the title and it was a bit of fun regarding all the rubbish the press throw around during transfer windows.

Never for one minute did I think that 62 days later we still wouldn’t have made a single signing, talk about fact stranger than fiction.

The figures of 68 in and 18 out are probably way behind the times because when I got to ’54 Days To Go’ then I gave up in despair, so I have had to trawl through the tinternet looking for rubbish transfer news that I had ‘missed’.

We will still bring you the odd transfer ‘story’ if we think it is worthy of some attention, otherwise you can just rely on our daily service bringing you a round-up of all the rubbish transfer rumours.

The latest ‘Ins’ and ‘Outs’ (we’ll just add extra clubs after our players’ names as additional clubs show ‘interest’) will be added to the top of each list on a daily basis, leaving you afterwards with a rubbish transfer news free day. News is coming in that Newcastle have now agreed a fee with Lyon for their 27 year-old striker Bafetimbi Gomis, so it looks like we are close to our first senior signing of the season, but the thing that is still holding things up is the fees to be paid to his agents, which have still not been agreed.

Now all we need is official photo from either the training ground following a medical or PR pics with player holding the shirt inside SJP.

Only taken JFK seven weeks to get one through the door rather than over the bloody line, fingers crossed he still doesn't manage to screw it up.

Leazes seven, eight or even nine it doesn't matter as the guy completely lost me after that interview with Talk Sh*te in his first week as Director of Feckall! IMO he shouldn't be within 300 miles of any appointment at The Toon. Although he could always prove me wrong, but I seriously doubt it even when any transfers are done.

WL, it's your opinion, my opinion and most other supporters that this foul mouthed gasbag shouldn't be here but have little say in that. If he does pull the Remy and other French striker deal the following press conference will no doubt be cringe worthy stuff. We may have too drag up the old Maggpie X-ray to see if Clueless Joe damages C3-C4 pattin himself on the back.

Given the time it's taken The Toons Director of Feckall to bring new players in without actually achieving that task some of the reports this morning make interesting reading.

Appears Villa and Fulham may have fallen out over Bent.....shock horror!

Gomis deal still up in the air somewhere over The Channel.

Remy deal just gets more crazy by the day as QPR now reported as wanting The Toon to pay the guys £80k a week in wages while he is on loan for a season.

Most interesting for me above that lot are the transfer links involving signing Tom Ince and James McCarthy. I would take both now if offered before a striker and should Joe Feckinere pull those off I will truly be gobsmacked.
