Sadly, I believe there are still many who don't rate Nolan. For me, however he is and always has been the business.

Sadly, I believe there are still many who don't rate Nolan. For me, however he is and always has been the business. I wasn't pointing the finger at you. But as you say so many people slaughtered him and now he's suddenly a hero on tyneside. Most nufc fans are so easily moved don't you think. And a word on Nolan to those who think he's just always there at the right place and at the right time...well...that's no coincidence. It's just a canny knack and a gift and once in those positions his finishing is impeccable. What's even better he's got the right attitude that tops it all and makes him a complete footballer.

And not so long ago many thought he was unfit and didn't move very well Fairscup was it you who once spoke about fickle fans Nolan clearly has issues controlling his weight which does not help his mobility hence the question marks over his fitness. That said he does bring other qualities to the side during a game which allow him to overcome any physical deficiency. The major one, a very handy knack of being Jonny on the spot in the box to score goals, has kept him in the side. Another factor is our small squad as no one has really put him under pressure for his place. With the prospect of both Ben Arfa and Gosling to come back into the picture our Captain IMO could be in for a big fight to remain in the side come next season. CWL

Arfa playes out wide. Nolan can't be moved

Danny Gosling is a central midfielder why will he not threaten Nolan? CWL Gosling playing in the centre midfield role! Don'tthink so. CWL he's a good player but he's young and inexpereinced. He needs time. I'd play him wide left to start off with. The whole problem is throwing young players and making them fill in big boots and putting pressure on them. But you and me needn't worry. We have Alan Pardew to take care of Gosling. What is Arfa's preferred position? Does anyone know? You might think he's wasted on the left but he might actually prefer it wide Barton was a centre midfield player wasn't he? How come he has adapted on the right? Arfa can do the same.

Experience doesn't help much when you are unable to catch the guy running past you with the ball...........................or get close enough to take it off him! Also if you are unable to handle the pressure of playing you will never make the grade as a professional at any level. I don't know whether Hatem prefers playing out wide or not. I was simply stating an opinion as you have done. The fact we disagree is what makes the game interesting and worth talking about. One of our greatest centre forwards ever started life as a left back. Obviously someone saw something, took a chance and changed his position otherwise he may never have become what he did. All I'm saying is that I would prefer seeing the lad play through the middle up front rather than be stuck out wide. As for Barton adapting to playing out wide on the right, well to a degree that's true, however I think that had more to do with getting the best out of Andy Carroll. For me it's not using Barton to best advantage throughout the game if he has to concentrate going wide right most of the time. When you watch us play he still comes inside to look for the ball with Danny Simpson doing a lot of work outside of him. The middle of the field is where he wants to play. Don't get me wrong I appreciate what Nolan brings to the side I just don't see him in quite the way you do. Nor do I believe he is untouchable for the position he plays, although when not available we do sorely miss his goal poaching ability. CWL

Kevin "Super" Nolan is the honest type. Of course even I would be pleased to see my mate go to the club I supported as a boy . I'm sure Nolan meant well. They were close those two. My slant on it is ,as team skipper,he should have done his utmost to keep him here, but like I said,if the price is right, the fat one will push you overboard. htl
